Recent heavy rains have also brought an unwelcome increase in flooding. We’ve been getting numerous calls each day from homeowners with water damage. While we are responding to every call that we can, equipment is limited. Here are some tips and advice on how to better prepare your property for the heavy rainfall that is still yet to come.
• Clean your gutters! Having clean, clear gutters ensures water travels away from your home.
• Make sure your spouts are attached.
• Clean debris from window and stair well drains
• Check on your sump pump and ensure it is properly working.
We encourage homeowners to install alarms or backup batteries on your sump pump – we see flooded homes due to sump pump failures very often. Installing an alarm and/or back-up battery can help save your home (and wallet) if/when your sump pump stops working.
If you notice a foundation leak, it is important to get it repaired sooner rather than later. We commonly see homeowners let foundation leaks sit, thinking it’s not important for the time being. But when heavy rainfall arrives, things deteriorate much faster.
