If you’ve been putting off a roof replacement, now is the best time to get it done! while we install and repair roofs year round, fall is the ideal time for a roof replacement.

When fall arrives, contractors are usually finishing up their busy season and are ready to knock out a few more jobs before slowing down for the winter months. And speaking of winter months – re-roofing your home now will ensure your home is protected and ready for the heavy snow ahead.

Why should you replace your roof in the fall?

  • Spring storms brought heavy rain, wicked wind and maybe even some hail. Have you noticed any damaged or missing shingles? If your roof is already up there in age, it would be a good idea to inspect the current conditions of your roof.
  • Snow is coming! Your roof was designed to handle a certain amount of snow, but sometimes a winter storm will dump more than your aging roof can handle. Heavy ice buildup can overload roof flashing and tie-ins, especially if your shingles are already crumbling.
  • Fall has the perfect weather. Any day that is above 40 degrees is perfect for roofing. Asphalt shingles need time to adhere and properly seal. When shingles are applied in good weather and temperatures, they form an airtight barrier against winter’s rain and snow.
  • Roofers can work full days. Summer brings the threat of overheating and exhaustion, while winter brings just the opposite. But the autumn season allows roofers to work full days, meaning they can get the job done much more quickly.
  • Save on Winter Heating. New roofing materials are energy efficient – they will help keep your home heated (or cooled).

If you’re not sure of the condition of your roof, an inspection would be smart. Most roofs last for about 15-20 years. It’s important to look for signs of aging or damage, so you can repair or replace it before you experience interior damage. Here are some signs that it may be time for a new roof:

  • Shingles that are cracked, curling, broken, splitting or missing.
  • Signs of damage or aging near your chimney, pipes and/or vents. Leaks often begin here.
  • Granules that make up your shingles may be falling away – check your gutters for any loose granules or build up.
  • Check your attic for sagging, leaking or signs of outside light.
